About GlobalGirl Training Academy 2011

Global Girl Media (GGM) partnered with the Institute Specialise for Communications and Audivisuele, Rabat (ISCA) to train 48 young Moroccan women as new media digital journalists. The project’s goal was to improve new media literacy for young women and encourage critical engagement by teenage girls, ages 18-22 in the upcoming Moroccan national elections, using the latest digital technology.

As an end product, this project will establish a Global Girl News Bureau in Morocco, hosted at ISCA. Four, two-day specialized programs on MOJO (Mobile Journalism and Blogging) were held Tetouan, Mohammedia, Marrakech and Safi.

Three of the best participants from each location were then selected to attend an intensive two-week social media training program delivered by GGM at ISCA, Rabat from Sept. 26 – Oct. 7th.  Finalists reported on issues related to women’s rights, cultural history and women in politics in Morocco. Each finalist launched her own blog on Tumblr, and twelve short, web-based videos were produced on a variety of topics. All of these can be viewed on the GGM website.
