Happy World Press Freedom Day!

May 3 is World Press Freedom Day. In our commitment to independent media and amplifying the voices of women and girls everywhere, we’d like to celebrate by highlighting the amazing work of our partners at Global Girl Media (GGM). You may have heard about GGM’s amazing work in developing media training programs for South African girls to cover the 2010 FIFA World Cup this summer here, here or here. But they’re not stopping there! This Friday Global Girl Media is launching a Los Angeles Academy, in conjunction with the Press Institute, which co-authored a 10 day curriculum for media training budding Latina journalists to cover the World Cup as well. Girls from various East/Downtown L.A. High Schools — many coming from broken homes or otherwise at-risk environments including gangs – will participate.
