World Cup taking over the Dinner Table…

When the fourth of July came around, my family and I found ourselves at my 93 year old Nina's house for a tasty barbecue. We got there and I was expecting the food to be ready, but it wasn't. My dad and brothers went out to help my Tio Tony barbecue. Once they got it going, the smell of the meat and chicken made my stomach rumble and my mouth water. I stayed in the living room and watched television with my Nina and mom and waited for my Nina Bert.

About an hour had passed and we had all given up hope that she was going to show up. I was standing my the window when I saw a Jeep pull up in front of the house. We were all shocked to see that it was my Nina Bert. She came in and everyone let her know that we had given up hope that she would show up.  The only thing she had to say was, "I had to keep you guys guessing! I wanted to surprise you."

Nina Bert also kept asking me, "Did you watch the game? Are you watching the games?" Oh my lord Jesus I couldn't get her to stop talking about it! Finally the food was ready and we had carne asada, enchiladas, rice, chicken, and potato salad. Everything was so delicious.

What surprised me was the conversation that took place at the table: everyone was talking about the World Cup and the matches that had happened and that were going to happen. The people that shocked me with their knowledge were my Nina Bert and myself. We were talking about how the players are so dramatic when they get hit, or when they don't get hit. We were also talking about the referees and their bad calls. It just amazed me to hear how much we all knew, and that we were all up to date on what was going on in the World Cup.
