Flashing lights, bass kicking, colorful attire, crazy costumes, a kick-ass DJ and people ready to dance the night away -- this is what a Rave consists of. Raves have become a big part of the Los Angeles culture. They take place in large venues such as the Los Angeles Colliseum and the Pico Sports Arena. Thousands of people attend these events. The tickets range in prices, they start off at 30$ and go as far as 125$.
On June 24th- June 25th Insomniac Inc. Events hosted the Electric Daisy Carnival in Exposition Park at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The two day event would begin at 2p.m and go to 2 a.m. the next morning. The overall result of the rave was overwhelming. Hundreds of people were injured as they tried to jump over fences to get inside. There were overdoses as well.
The unfortunate part about raves is that drugs are a huge part of it, which include ecstacy, marijuana and cocaine. A victim of these drugs was 15 year old Sasha Rodriguez who had an overdose, she unfortunately didn't make it and died.
This event has resulted in many people in the community questioning whether or not these events should be allowed. Or that maybe the presence of more police officers can help calm the people and keep things in order.
In my opinion what should be done is this: there should be much more security at the entrance and they should ask for identification for those who appear to look below 16; the flyer for Electric Daisy Carnival clearly said " below 16 must be accompanied by an adult. There should also be bag checks to prevent drugs from entering the event.
I don't think Raves should be banned because events like these bring people together for one reason and that reason is the music. These music lovers unite and dance all night long. I've never personally been to a rave but I've heard from many of my friends that the vibe is great, the people are nice and the music is awesome.
