Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteras (Day Laborer Theater Without Borders) is a theater group of day laborers who create original plays for and about the day laborer community. When I visited El Teatro Jornalero sin Fronteras the people who were there were enjoying it. It seemed that they were understanding and relating to the plays message about their rights as immigrants.

In the play, the characters who crossed the border did so with a purpose: they wanted to have a better life, wanted to be better people, and wanted to live the American dream as US residents.

When I interviewed Lorena Moran, Teatro Jornalero Associate Artistic Director, she said that many people who cross the border think that as soon as they get to the United States they will have a better life, but they don’t know how hard they have to work to achieve that dream. They have to go through a lot of turmoil because they don’t know how different the US is from their country.  I felt that was true, because they don’t have the same things we do right here in the US.  We have every thing, and where they live, they don’t because some of them are poor.

I asked her why she decided to come to the US for and she told me that she came here because she wanted a better life. But later on she told me that she didn’t recommend other people from other countries to come to the US because their dreams will not come true. I agree with her because many of these people who are trying to have a better life risk it by crossing the border.

When the people cross the border they go through many things, like for example, the “coyote” may leave them behind and they could get lost in the desert. They may also have an injury and never actually make it across.  The people who cross the border risk their lives to have the best, but it is bad for them because they don’t know what could happen to them when crossing the border.

I think that Lorena Moran is right because she wanted to help the people realize how they suffer when they have to do many things to have a better life and how many other people take advantage of them because they don’t know any thing that is going on in the US. I also like how she is trying to help the Jornaleros know their rights and how they should defend themselves.
