Last night, before dinner, I looked over at my older sister, Cristina, seventeen, and prepared for my interview by asking her some warm-up, conversational questions. I was faced with short, brief answers and wanted to hear more.
“Anything new?” I asked.
“No, not really.” she replied, as she was texting her boyfriend and watching the tube, giving me about twenty-percent of her attention span.
I was a bit discouraged when I began to ask her the questions we were assigned to ask, but I did anyway.
“What is one bad thing that has happened to you in your life?” I asked her.
She replied, “I thought that I would pass my CAHSEE test, but I didn’t.”
I looked at her, surprised and disappointed. The CAHSEE is the exit exam that is required for all high schoolers to pass in order receive a diploma. The reason why I hold this disappointment is because I know that the content is eighth grade material and I know she could pass it. I want her to pass it so bad, I saved my old notes for her to study from.
After I asked her this question, I could sense her sensitivity as Cristina’s eyes wandered off, continuing on texting and watching television. She also rubbed her hands together in a nervous way, uneasy and annoyed as I pestered her for this interview.
I moved on to the next question. “What was your dream when you were a young child?”
She answered, “My dream was to become a medical assistant. I was 12 years old when I decided to do that.”
My eyes popped out with excitement when she was talking about her dream.
She continued, “I got inspired by watching television and seeing commercials.” While she was speaking, she moved her hands around, expressing her interest in this topic.
From my interview, I learned that you can be inspired by one person. This person, in my life, is my sister, and that anything you want to do, you can, you just have to set your mind to it. Although my sister is a hard worker and has set her mind to it, everything takes patience to achieve. I will help her throughout her way in anything to achieve her dream.
My dream is to become part of the criminal justice program as an FBI agent. With patience and the support of my family, I know I can set my mind to it and achieve anything.
