The Girls in Pink and Blue

March 23rd, 2011 by Tebogo Tsotetsi

On March 22, 2011 GlobalGirl Media was invited to the International Women’s Media Conference held in Washington D.C. The conference was all about female journalists and the empowerment of women around the world.

The conference had different panels daily and they went well under discussion with the interaction of the female journalists from all the different parts of the world.

The GlobalGirls got a chance to interview most of the women who were a part of the conference. The highlight for the girls was when they got the chance to interview ambassador Melanne Veveer, who is a respected woman in the world of journalists.

One of the things that really caught our attention as GlobalGirl media reporters is that in Belarus they do not have free press, especially for female journalists such as Natalia Kalaida who was at the conference. Many journalists were arrested in the country because the government believed that they were violating the law by reporting on human interest stories.

Attending this conference was an historic event for the GlobalGirls because we got a chance to learn more about our future careers and grow more love and passion for the job. We learned how to be strong and assertive in what we say. GlobalGirl Media really was the center of attention. It’s amazing what our little video camera and microphone can do with all the drive and spirit of the girls in blue and pink GlobalGirl Media T-shirts.

I am Tebogo Tsotetsi reporting for GlobalGirl Media.

This is our world and definitely my voice.
